INFINITT Dental PACS adoption establishes a completely filmless environment

Yonsei University Dental Hospital (YUDH) marked the beginning of modern dental treatment in Korea when it was established as the nation’s first dental clinic back in 1915 by a missionary dentist, Dr. W. J. Scheifley. YUDH now operates 9 clinical departments, a patient room, an emergency room, and 6 specialized clinics. Its goals are to effectively treat the 3 major dental diseases (dental caries, periodontal disease, and malocclusion), to encourage cross-departmental cooperation and to reduce patient waiting hours altogether.

Professor Ho Gul Jung explains in an interview why YUDH decided to adopt INFINITT Dental PACS and the changes and improvements that have come out of it.

 

Q. Why did you adopt INFINITT Dental PACS? 

A: The main purpose of adopting PACS was to make a completely “filmless” environment. As the hospital grew in size, it became too difficult to manage the growing number of films. It took too long to find and manage patient’s films and often times they got lost in the process. We felt there was a need to digitalize the images and the charts for more efficient data management. As a result, we adopted INFINITT Dental PACS.

 

Q. What is the biggest difference you’ve experienced since the adoption?

A: First of all, the problem of losing films is now a non-existent issue. We no longer need to purchase or manage films, and we now have the film storage space for ourselves which means more spacious, efficient working environment.

 

Q. What has improved the most in terms of reading when compared with physical “films”?

A: An improvement in the accuracy of image analysis would be the most noticeable. When we used films, it was hard to analyze the images if the films weren’t developed in best qualities. Now, PACS guarantees a consistent image quality, so reading accuracy has improved overall. Also, while we used to make measurements manually on films, now PACS automatically gives the lengths and angles of image parts we want to measure. It’s also very convenient how radiographer from the examination room and I from my room can simultaneously access the images via PACS in real-time.

 

Q: What are the benefits that patients get from the adoption of INFINITT Dental PACS?

A: The biggest benefit is that they no longer have to pay the extra fee for films. Waiting hours have been greatly shortened as well since there’s no need to wait for films to be developed.

 

Q: What do you think is the most useful out of all INFINITT Dental PACS features?

A: The FMX Mode. It gives a panoramic display of the entire mouth. It’s very convenient for reading dental images, and is something not provided by other vendor solutions. The image comparison feature, which enables you to compare two different images while reading, is also very useful.

 

Q: What do you think differentiates INFINITT from other vendors?

A: INFINITT is an extremely customer-oriented company. We noticed that INFINITT reflects on the customer’s workflow and working environment when suggesting or installing their solutions. Also, they make sure everything operates very smoothly with other systems in use. For instance, we were especially happy with how smooth the OCS integration went.
